This guide/tutorial will help the beginners to understand basic exterior lighting using both SU sun and overriding that sun by using vray physical Sun and understanding Vray Physical camera. HDRI lighting is not included here as i want to do a seperate tutorial on it.

Max and SU have differences in setting up the vray sun, but the parameters are the same.

Here is the link where you can download the mini- tutorial that i did.

As you probably know, when you only have a colour instead of a texture in the diffuse channel, SU won't generate UV mapping.

So for instance, when you wanted an opacity map for a material with a plain colour, a work around often involves adding the opacity map to the default diffuse layer and set it's opacity to 0 so it's invisible, and then create a second diffuse layer which is visible.

I am writing some tips here using Vray sketchup

If you want fast rendering time.

1. Do not use QMC. QMC calculation is the most exact yet the slowest.

2. When using IR engine (say-5, -3) calculate faster but be aware of light leaks. for final render you can make it higher

3. Use Light Catche as your 2nd engine. the Default 1000/ samples .02 size/ make it 500 or lower . Be sure you tick the glossy box something.

4. Now its always advisable to save your IR and LC and reload ...
