Can't use other programs while rendering :(

I'm really confused why even the mouse is laggy when I render in su+vray. Its hard just to even click an icon when the rendering starts. It seems that my PC dedicates ALL of its resources to the rendering process that it doesn't have anything left for other functions. But if i try to render with my core2duo laptop it seems fine, I could still perform other tasks while vray is rendering in the background.

Here are the specs of my PC:

CPU: I7 930 2.80 ghz
MOBO: MSI Pro-E x58
RAM: 6gb DDR3
VGA: Palit NVidia GTS 250 1gb
HDD: Hitachi 1TB

Pls help me, any explanation/suggestion would be greatly appreciated

64bit OS?
If not, you should. When I made the switch from 32 to 64 I never could forgive myself for holding back for so long.

have you tried to render other file?and post some screenshots of your settings to give us idea..

the specs of your pc is quit good enough to perform a high quality rendering, for my own opinion i think you have a problem in settings up your rendering..

I dont really tweak much when it comes to the vray settings, i just turn off the GI and background and the physical camera.
then I decrease the noise threshold to .001, and that's it, i'm still new to the vray thing:D. This is why i'm really wondering what's going wrong, if its a hardware issue or something.


@cloud20, yes i'm using a windows 7 64bit OS.

could you post the settings you've comprised? there are some factors there that might caused the problem...

Here's one trick, it might help. This is what I do when I'm rendering, especially in the office where I need to open CGP at the same time.

Go to task manager, Applications, right click on 3dsmax, Go to process, right click 3dsmax again, set priority, below normal.

This may slow down your rendering, but hey, at least you could do some other stuff too!

we have the same specs but doesnt experience that..
gano ba kalaki ang rinerender mo?
kasi ako sometimes i render 2 scenes at the same time kapag rush tapos nakakapaginternet pa ako..
how about your cooling system?ang alam ko kasi, may effect din un lalo na ang i7, kahit isang scene lang ginagawa mo ibubuhos nya lahat ang power nito..

I'm not sure with my answer but this is how i understand it..
and i7 kasi, may boost technology, so nagautomatic overclock sya and kapag e noobserve ko ung performance bar, lagi 100% nag CPU usage when rendering.,so parang nasa high performance lagi siya..

and as far as i know, kapag nagooverheat bumabagal ang performance..kaya kailangan ng cooling system..

di ko alam bro kung insufficient ung sayo pero heto ang cooling ng sakin, tignan mo nalang kung pareho:

cooler: Tunia 120 extreme tower
chassis: 1 - 12cm front fan
1 - 12cm top fan
1 - 12cm rear fan
1 - 22cm side fan

wait natin ibang techie masters dito..but if sir torvics solve your problem..i think extra nalang ito..hehe
