Re: just tryin out... my 1st matte
nice work bro! good potentials.
just a crit if ok lang, always check your black levels. blak sa malapit at papuntang to lightest gray papalayo para mas kita ang depth. copy both of your images on a new doc then desaturate both.
for the first image: color pick sa black center tower and get values. then color pick sa tower na malapit and also get values. you would notice both towers have same black values. though scale wise you would see it far but distance couldnt be felt as much. also the farther the image the less detail and texture i see, the nearest one should have more. even if the focal points are the farthest towers, this should still apply as the image portrays a scene shot with a wide angle lens.
2nd image: the center floating image has also the same black values as the near elements. If i would see it parang katabi lang ng girl yung floating image unless i look at the entire image at makita ung ibabang part na nasa kalayuan pala. you did well in applying the black values sa malalayong structures. those levels really created depth. the mid ground elements i think shud have the same black values to the biggest floating ship. then adjust each and every parts from that reference. also watch out with your ligth sources. If my basis is the girl, the floating element is not the same with it, only the terrain and the back parts are.
this is a good start! keep mattepainting!

Re: just tryin out... my 1st matte
magaling bro,
maganda yung konsepto at komposisyon.rock on dude.

Re: just tryin out... my 1st matte
Hi,
For your first matte, I have to say these are great. I love the ideas behind the images and the way you portrayed them.
I have to agree with Jeff MD though. What really sells as a good mattepainting is the depth. If your looking for a very realistic matteapaintings, then you must go back to the basics. In order for you to see this, you must try applying a Curve on top of all your layers... then boost it up to the lightest. Pag me makita kang madilim sa mga background objects or kasing dark sa foreground, then yun ang dapat mung e-adjust.
At the same time colors will become desturated as they go further back. So kung anu yung matingkad (saturated) sa foreground will become desaturated as they go further back. The best way to see this is place a photograph side by side sa painting mu and look at the values of the images (provided na your using a reference image na halos the same sa painting mu.)
These are the basic, hopefully makakatulong yan. Again great first try and cool works man!
