Detailed Armour - WiP

Okay, I'm drawing a large illustration for a couple of friends of mine; its my Christmas gift to them. Obviously its a work in progress, (obvious phrase is obvious) I'm just wondering there -MUST- be an easier way to do all this detailed armour. The two in the photo are Catylina and Aurélia.
