If there's another sport that would bring Philippines in the world stage aside from boxing... it would be football...

LOL! ikaw may sabi nyan master Bakugan ha, hehehe! Basketball til the Phil Sports Commission do some reality check... the golden era of Phil Basketball is long gone... hence Jawo, Atoy Co, Adornado et al and Fernandez, Caidic, Samboy Lim are long retired... kunswelo nlng na we are still the king in South East Asia, but the whole of Asia? not anymore... hence the very disappointing performance of the "professional" Smart-Gilas Team in Asian Games...

And he's from my hometown, Barotac, Iloilo.

The great Paulino Alcantara!

Many of our former national players are coming from Barotac Nuevo, many of them are enlisted in the AFP but actually ang trabaho nila is just to play football... until now yata in demand pa rin ang mga footballers from Barotac dyan sa mga university sa manila to play for their team. there are lots of good players coming from Barotac, Sta. Barbara and La paz in Iloilo.

And speaking of Paulino Alcantara, he's a legend of FC Barcelona in Spain... Many of his memorabilia are enshrined in FC Barcelona Museum... I don't know baket di sya pinaparangalan satin... we could have declared him a national hero...

Kahit sa singapore football/ soccer scene may mga filipinong naglalaro dati... ewan ko lang ngayon... kaso napasama sila sa mga players na nahuli ng game fixing.

7 members of the team are from Barotac Nuevo, heres the article from PDI:

Hopefully meron tayong home game, i dont know if these press statement is final... it seem final though Very Happy
AFAIK we've hosted several international soccer games, i could remember there's Presidential Cup during Ramos time, we have different SE Asian national teams who participated including a team from Australia (not the Australian Nat'l Team though)...
Games were played in Iloilo, Barotac Nuevo and Bacolod... Inquirer article said we may have our home game at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod. I think it's a good choice, Negrenses love footbal and know their football very well, and it will be a hostile ground for the Indonesians... Twisted Evil
But if we wont get our home game, it would be better if Singapore will be the host, theres a huge filipino community Wink

Home game will be at Ho Chi Minh (Saigon)
It should be ok, dami din pinoy sa Vietnam and usually the host root for the underdogs...
http://www.gmanews.tv/story/208061/pff-accepts-vff-offer-to-host-home-game-in-ho-chi-minh

just wanna highlight what coach Mc Menemy and some players said:

But Simon McMenemy, the Philippine team's English coach, said that not being able to play in the country was a "massive disappointment for both myself and the boys who worked so hard so they could play in front of their countrymen."

"It's painful and heart-breaking that we won’t be able to play in front of Filipinos," said McMenemy, citing the match’s importance not only for the team but also for the sport's status in the country.

"What a huge impact it would have been for Philippine football had we played here," said Filipino-British striker Phil Younghusband.

"Marinig mo lang ang mga kapwa mo Pilipino na sumisigaw para sayo, naka-aalis na ng pagod," added veteran Ian Araneta
