new rig problem

Post by arnold_29 on Mon Jan 03, 2011 12:15 pm

a pleasant day to all cgpips please help me with my pc problem,i acquired this new rig 2 weeks ago, cant figure out what went wrong because its performance has deteriorated dramatically considering that i have just used it for a couple of weeks only, esp. during rendering, i tried to render a big file with 8million polys in it but i ended up very disappointed because it took me nearly 20hrs to render while my office computer just took only 4 hours, and they are almost the same in specs the only difference is the graphics card, my pc has gts450 wwhile my office comp. has an old gtx 285, and they are both using i7 920 processor, is this a graphics card issue?coz i can hardly open another application while rendering, i also have problem navigating the viewport..please advice me what to do..tyvm in advance.

Do you have the same amount of RAM at home and sa office ninyo? If you have less ram it will take longer to load a big scene before it can start rendering. Video card is only during viewport manipulation, it does not help in rendering, unless you are using gpu renderer. Smile

sam question din...memory capacity?8million polys is quite big...
pero sobrang layo naman ang difference..20hrs compared to 4hrs?x500%...
how about yung renderer?vray ba?what version?

cguro nga s memory ang lapses kc im only using 3x2gb patriot viper II sector 7 edition ddr3 while my office comp has 3x4gb, i observed also during rendering that there are some intermitent occassion wherein my pc pauses rendering for 5-10 mins. to unload geometry..while my office computer does not..anyway salamat mga master sa mga opinion nyo a pleasant day to all of you

good, you can also check your vray settings under dynamic and static, it affects rendering time for big scenes. Smile

use auto or dynamic, set memory to at least 4000. default is at 400 lang kasi.
