"The Kingdom's jester squirrel , assassin crow, soldier frog, knight
dragonfly with his humble rat squire and the wizard grasshopper all
smitten by this lady's charm or maybe it's the tune?"
Here's my stab at mimicking my traditional oil techniques using digital.
I used Artrage for this.
This is 01 of my 11 for '11 art themes/topic to paint.
The making of this piece coming up...

The process
[img]
%20%20Uploaded%20with%20ImageShack.us[/img]
1. Inspiration:
I managed to scan this superb
silhouette/illustration from a vintage Peter Pan book before my mini art
library got ravaged by that infamous typhoon Ondoy.
So that drawing
is not my art. I promised my self that someday like today!), I'ma gonna
flesh out those silos and give each a corresponding characterization.
2.Sketch /Line art:
I did this lineart in Photoshop. The background and the characters with the foreground should on a separate layer.
3. Underpainting:
Again in Photoshop ,under the lineart layers . I created 2 fresh layers
for the underpainting of the characters with the foreground and for the
background.
I talked to my art buddy ,traditional painter
about how Maestro Rembrandt's paintings gets this different glow. So he
said it's in the lighting and also it's in the shadows. Rembrandt's
shadows also glows. Hence my use of earth/reddish underpainting ,so that
if I paint over it the red underpainting will show. Ergo the glow.
After painting the underpainting merge it with the lineart but still separate the background from the characters.
4.Painting process:
Now you have 2 lineart /underpaint layers ( the characters and the
background layer) . Now using your psd file. Import it in Artrage. Then
use the oils brushes. I mostly used normal round and the thick gloss
brushes. Paint over your lineart/underpainting using this. Since we are
imitating oil painting techniques. First paint with large daubs of paint
then later detail it. Also I used the palette knife brush for mixing
the colors in the layers ( especially for the clouds). I then started
detailing using the digital oil . The idea is to create abstract colors
and shapes within the painting but when you truck out , you should be
able to distinguish the wholeness of the painting. After painting I
added the borders in Photoshop.
-Hope it helped,
