Intel recall affects all Sandy Bridge PCs

Post by hotrod on Mon Jan 31, 2011 5:54 pm

Hi I just want to share what I have read, I was ordering a new sandybridge system and had to cancel it for now Sad

Intel has issued a chipset recall that will affect every PC and laptop incorporating its new Sandy Bridge processors.
The problem is with the Series 6 chipsets, which is used in all
Sandy Bridge systems, both laptops and desktops. The company claims the
SATA ports within the chipset - codenamed Cougar Point - "may degrade
over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of
SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives".

i would rather buy 2-3 I7s compare with the 980x and use it as a mini farm. That will really save you a huge amount of time and money.

i980x is the king right now. I would buy it over sandybridge Smile, It renders 2 times faster than i920.

having 2-3slower icore is an option, but it does not help you in other situations where raw ghz of 1 cpu is needed.

for example in computing LC, IR for an animation, etc.

Some motherboard manufacturers already releases new mobo with revision B3 mark.
The issue with the chipset has been resolved.
