Ambient Occlusion with Vray Dirt Made Easy
First topic message reminder :
Hi guys, Here's a simple step by step work flow on how to apply vraydirt as your ambient occlusion (AO).
1. Render raw object.

2. Create a vraymtl and then apply vray dirt on diffuse material slot.

vraydirt settings

3. Drag vraydirt material to your override material slot under global switches dialogue box.

4. Make sure to turn off your background and use a white color.

5. Render object with vray dirt material

In Photoshop
6. Copy and paste vraydirt render over raw render and blend it using multiply, adjust opacity to desired output.

7. And heres the final output.

Results may vary depending on your preffered output. Vraydirt will add depth to your renderings by adding dark areas on the corners and edges. Good luck and happy rendering.

Perhaps you were dragging a map rather than a material. The picture inn bok's post above (step no 3.) should illustrate the arrow on the right upper side of the material editor (material name) fo dragging rather than the diffuse map of the material. I think that's where you got confused.
To ovverride, you must drag or create a material (not a map)
