silvercrown: Lighting & Texture Competition (Filipino Ancestral Home)
First topic message reminder :
Concept: An old Filipino Ancestral Home
Im leaning towards a casual type of ancestral house and not on the traditional, conservative, restored type of ancestral houses... (will try to make this version....)
I wanted to capture the provincial, laid-back ambiance and atmosphere of an old Filipino Ancestral House found in the provinces...
Elements are a mixture of different influences (spanish, american, filipino, etc) and changes brought by the family's many generations that sometimes are incoherent but somehow managed to evolve and gave character to the interiors of these old houses...
Joined this contest to challenge myself and push my knowledge of this craft a little further... specially that im working on a different field right now... whew... the woe of migration...
Comments and suggestion are welcome!

I agree with alwin. Even yung chandelier pwede gawin antique finish..palitan mo lang yung material..right now kasi parang more of Japanese cya.

Re: silvercrown: Lighting & Texture Competition (Filipino Ancestral Home)
nice but again it misses the concept.
1. walls are too glossy for an ancestral home
2. furniture is too contemporary
3. fireplace was obviously photoshopped, doesnt blend pretty well
4. chandelier - totally out of concept
5. too many blues and reds in the bookshelves, they dont complement the scene
6. the ceiling looks like concrete. a filipino ancestral home is made of stone and wood.
frankly the only thing that makes your scene "filipino ancestral" are the two paintings.
now some suggestions to enhance:
1. add some santo-s
2. change all the furniture to what you might see in vigan/iloilo/old manila interiors. think rizal's shrine or one of nakpil's homes. a good start would be those old wooden sofas with cages underneath (where the visitors place their chickens) and a really old rocking chair (like the ones used by our lolas)
3. transform the windows into capiz patterns
4. use better maps for the books, more on the brownish / yellow / burgundy tones
5. try using boxer codex artwork, and emphasize on the framing as well.
the filipino ancestral interior is quite lavish and semi-victorian.

Again i'm not dwelling into the traditional, restored, conservative type of filipino ancestral house on this render bro... This render is more of a casual type, wherein every "generation" of the family has contributed changes and elements, more often incoherent but nonetheless has made it's own character...
You're points are very well taken, and i'm hoping to do a version you're trying to suggest... the traditional filipino ancestral house... restored type....
Thanks for the heads up, suggestions, tips, and C&Cs... it's a privilege
