VRay or MentalRay and why?

Ito po ang kauna-unahan kong post dito, pasensya na at maki kulit kaagad ako sa opinyon and personal preferences ninyo tungkol sa subject

VRay or Mental Ray and why? Alam ko pong mas marami sa inyo ang gumagamit ng VRay for reasons na mas madali cyang gamitin (at mas mabilis?).. bukod dyan gusto ko pong malamang ang mga opinyon ng bawat isa based on your experiences, lalo na mga gurus at masters

Baguhan lang po ako sa 3D cgi, at ang ginagamay ko po ay 3DSMax using Mental Ray.

On a side note, na notice ko po na karamihan sa mga CGIs na gamit sa movie industry ay rendered using Mental ray.
Given the common notion that VRay is a choice among many, gusto ko pong marinig ang mga feedbacks ninyo.

I cannot give a non-biased answer because I'm a old brain and and vray allows me to do what MR peeps say MR does.

But that would probably change now with the current recession - so I'll probably hang out with MR peeps and see what good it brings me.

The cost of software is going up and the free MR that comes with max may give us more leverage.

The bottomline is - choose what works for you. It isn't the software that makes your render looks good - it's you the artist anyways.

Let's ask siops - I know he digs MR better than us.

Maraming salamat mga ser... medyo unti-unti ko na ring nagamay ang MR in many ways, although di ko lang cya ma compare to VRay as I haven't had the chance to try and use it - yet. I was actually more interested in speed and I've read many comments about VRay being "faster". So I guess, I'd stick to that which I'm comfortable with, so long as I get what I wanted Thanks again.

BTW, sino-sino po sa inyo nakapunta dito sa SIngapore during the SIGraph Asia 2008 last december? I know nandito si "Master ZAP" - co-developer ng MR (http://www.blogger.com/profile/08935910250942359436) but I haven't got the chance see him in person (or attend his workshop) coz general admittance lang po yung ticket ko hehehe..

ako baguhan pa lang gumamit ng vray, pero kagaya ng sinabi ni sir bokkins mas marami kang matatanungan tungkol sa vray kesa sa mental ray, saka mas madali kong naintidihan at kapain yung mga setup ng vray. mental ray user ako dati pero siguro nahirapan ako intindihin kaya hindi agad nakita yung hinahanap kung quality pagdating sa exterior setup na nakita naman sa vray, yun palang din talaga alam ko kaya ngayun mas nagfofocus sa pag kapa ng vray.

I also tried mental ray during my max 6 and max 7 days....medyo nahirapan lang ako sa learning curve kaya, nagswitch ako sa vray.

Pero, ok din, pagnatutunan mo yung mental ray, at least you no longer need to buy a vray license, since you get mental ray with every versions of max.

Sabi pa nga ni sir vertex, wala sa gamit yan, nasa gumagamit yan.

i like vray but i feel hindi ko pa naabut kung hangaang saan talaga kaya ng vray due to my rig.

Mas gusto ko VRAY kasi mas natutunan ko siya kaagad maybe may complete support sa CHAOS GROUP at may "CGP",....ang mga PC natin medyo hindi pa highend kaya nag aadjust pa tayo sa minimum na makakaya ng VRAY and how much more kung highend lahat ng PC natin na kagaya ng ginagamit ng PIXAR....edi lahat tayo mga master na hehehehe

for me inggit ako sa mental ray nuong una kasi maganda yung output!
kaya lang parang bihira lang yung mga tuts na makikita!
kaya paglabas sa vray makikita naman natin na marami yung mga tuts kaya
duon na lang ako kasi komportable ako!

Na compare k n ung finish product ng Vray at mental ray pero prang mas realistic ang vray mdali p syang gamitin...ewan k lng hah kc di p nmn ako nkakagamit ng mental ray eh....radiosity p lng nun...

Magkaiba po yung madaling intindihin o pag-aralan kaysa sa kung alin ang mas realistic ang output. I am sure that MR has its good points and a good artist will always be able to render photorealistic images kahit pa anong renderer ang gamitin.

if MR starts to be process and time efficient, then it's worth a look.
