CHAMFER TOOLS

Post by render master on Wed Apr 29, 2009 11:33 am

CHAMFER TOOLS - for smoothing and beveling corners

1. Select your object
2. Convert it to poly
3. Select the edges you wish to smoothen

4. look for the chamfer button in the modifier panel
5. click and provide the amount of chamfer, and the number of chamfers.

Smoothing edge for an irregular shape objects where the edges is so hard to select.

6. First select the polygon where the edges be located, say the top portion

7. Press CTRL then select edge selection, it will automatically select the edge sorrounding the polygon. This is good if you cant select the edge ( on one polygon) you want to chamfer

8. Then chamfer it

Smoothing edge for an irregular shape object having subdivision. Like a tube having a so many subdivision.

Selecting polygon one by one is a hard task.

9. What you will do is just select one segments or i mean is one edges, press CTRL then while still pressing select the arrow up or arrow down opposite with LOOP, and you will see that your selection goes around.

10. After you have completed the selection of the edges you wish to smoothen, press chamfer

SHAPE TOOLS

Post by render master on Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:17 pm

SHAPE TOOLS
with shape tools you can create a lot of models at ease.

-First create a shape fo you want, say a wall

-Create another shape but for this time, deactivate CREATE NEW SHAPE button

- then Copy the newly created shape by selecting its segments

-Then extrude, you will now have a wall with an array of window opening in just a seconds

-You can even create difiirent shape

-Or even a text shape, much better than using boolean

Enjoy, more to come

Ang aking payo sa mga baguhan - bigyan pansin ang mga tutorials na kasama sa installation ng 3dsmax ninyo. Marami sa atin ang kinaliligtaan ang pagsilip nito - but you are missing quite a lot if you don't spend time and work out the tutorials. It will be your foundation.

When I was starting with 3dstudio and later, 3dsmax in late 1996, we did not have the luxury of abundant online tuts - much to say internet then was like a chuchu train travelling at the speed of darkness...

What I found very helpful in getting used to the software was the helpfiles and trying out all the modifiers in the stack unto a simple object like a box or a sphere. This gave me an introduction as to what the particular modifier was about or in what situation it could be used.

Do not disregard the help files or the default tutorials - they're there for a reason you know!

Since I am not born an architect and I could only imagine the word ridge or column from my own understanding, could you post a picture? As I always say, there are a million ways to do the same thing in max, and it would be difficult to visualize something and come up with a quick way to model without actually knowing its shape.

One technique to model something that might be organic or symmetrical in shape is to find areas in the object that could be mirrored. I tend to rotate the object and look for views that I could use as an axis for arrays, symmetry or mirroring.

For example, old roman columns might be repetitions of the same object or corner if viewed from the top view. You might need to spend a few minutes modelling a single source shape using common techniques (for organically shaped - obejcts I tend to use Spline modeling - surface tools, cross section, etc). Once you have a source shape, you can then apply a symmetry mod to copy/weld them from various axes.
