CG artist but cant draw (is it a pre-requisite)

Gusto ko sana maging CG artist/animator/modeller/etc pero hindi ako marunong mag drawing. Is it a pre-requisite ang excellent drawing skills para maging animator/CG artist ka? I.T. kasi ang course ko at Im aiming for the multimedia side unfortunately hindi ako marunong mag drawing but im starting to learn 3dsmax little by little. I started to do adobe photoshop muna then > after effects > then 3dsmax. Pangarap ko kasi to kaso nawawalan ako ng pagasa kasi hindi ako marunong mag drawing.

In my side bro hindi namn cguro pre-requisite na pagiging cg-artist na marunong kang mag drawing,in the first place di ka nman mag mamanual drawing sa monitor diba, ang importante kasi sa pagiging cg artist I think is kabisado mo ang software na gamit mo yun ang pina ka importante, para alam mo kung anong gagamitin mo sa pag bou mo sa mga obra na gusto mong e achieve..saka kung pursigido ka talaga maraming paraan bro.....sana makatulong..tambay ka dito...maraming mababait dito...

for me sir, ang importante ay, kaya mong i-interpret ang idea mo sa kahit anong engine, mapa cg man yan o hand sketch. ang importante ay practice, practice, practice and patients and with pure talent, its a plus. kaya mo yan bro.

me i'm 3d renderer an architecture pero hindi ako marunong mag sketch !
importante yung marunong kang magcomputer

in the heart lang yan bro an artist can be called an artist if love nya ang gwa nya and madami humanaga sa mga gwa nito..side kulang yun,,san fer kurin par agyu muyan

actually pag nag cg ka na...di ka na halos magdradrawing e.......aralin mo lang mag cg...marami dyan mga artist di marunong mag drawing......ma inspire ka sa kanila dude....saka iba iba din ng klase ang cg artist meron sa matte painting, 3d modeller,...etc.....kung saan ka magiging mahusay im sure meron lugar ang cg para sayo dude....

salamat salamat. i started practicing last year magaral ng adobe photoshop and after effects para 2d muna. then ito na. sana gumaling ako hehe. ill start 3dsmax na ngaun. para mag level up naman ako.

ung free tutorials ng 3dsmax muna ako start para makapa ko muna.

IMO, d importante kng magaling ka mag draw/sketch, though it'd be a big help. Basta ang importante, you need to have a solid understanding of art basics (like anatomy, lighting, architecture, etc.). CG world is big, madaming disciplines ang involved. Just know what you want, and learn the things you need to know to excel in that discipline.

And always keep motivated. The ability to motivate one's self is the most important skill an artist should have. It's your primary weapon.

well its just another skill uisng another media. instead na pencil ang hawak mo pinagpalit mo with keyboard and mouse.. in the end i think still the final output. on the other hand, drawing by hand is a skill which i will recommend na pagpraktisan. and anthing that is skilled based ay pwedeng aralin.

in your case mas magaling yung skill mo sa digital kesa sa traditional.. so nasa iyo yun. pero sa akin dahil nagtuturo ako ng art, i see to it that my studetns know the basic of traditional drawing and at the same time proficient in using the digital media.

kung sa CG animator naman ang gusto mo.. at alam mo na you can show your concept quickly with it, i dont thik you need to. kasi end product mo Computer Graphics diba. Pero yung mga sikat at magagaling na imagineer na nakita ko, halos lahat ng concepto nila nagmula muna sa mga traditional sketching ...

so my advice is do not make it a stumbling block not to pursue it, pero if i may encourage you.. hindi pa naman huli kung magpraktice kang magdrawing... "begin by looking on this topic.. Drawing using the right side of the brain" there is a book by Betty Edwards on this concept.. at nakita ko rin na using this book as your guide at taos puso ang pagfolow mo sa mga exercise. i think with the span of 3 months you will learn how to draw properly.
