For me its much worst in iraq and afghanistan because i been in afghanistan and I saw the status and how to live there. Yung nangyari sa maguindanao matagal na iyan angkan sa angkan talaga ang labanan diyan un nga lang eto lang ang worst clan wars that happened in mindanao pati media nadamay at ang dami. Still its not appropriate to compare our country to that places. Bare in mind also that we must not mark our brother muslims that they are all like these attitude or character because even in christians this also happens too. pantay pantay lang tayong mga tao magibang relihiyon ka man o hindi na may capacity to do good and evil. I know it kasi I know a lot people who has a mentality like that because when we die in the eyes of Allah, our God we are in the same level and stepping on a same plane. He will judge us not by our color, nationality or religion but how we live and how we did good things.
For me maswerte pa rin tayo dahil maayos ayos parin ang bansa natin.

http://www.gmanews.tv/story/178290/after-the-massacre-dureza-describes-his-encounter-with-the-ampatuans

Very dramatic yung account ni Mr Dureza... parang pelikula...

I fell off my seat nung nabasa ko na yung part about handcuff. yung justification nya baket di naka-handcuff yung suspect...

Eto yun
"But wait, another problem suddenly cropped up. As we were boarding, the two PNP officers tasked to escort the suspect said they could not use the handcuff on Ampatuan as the KEY WAS MISSING!

“What about the other handcuff with your buddy," I asked.

“Ganon din po (Same problem), sir,", he replied.

“Sh_t!" I almost fell from my seat! “Sarap sapakin!" (I'd love to bash your faces in!) "

Sarap sapakin daw hahaha...

Subaybayan natin yung developments neto... i know maraming mastermind dito... knowing how these clans operate in Maguindanao, di lang iisa ang utak dito...

The thing is very common ang political warlordism in some parts of Mindanao. Plus the fact that this massacre is only one of many throughout the years.. And for centuries these very same clans take pride in their defiance of subjugation, whether internal or foreign (remember nung panahon ng Espanol and Americans they remained unconquered).

It would take more than our current government and justice system to fix this problem. Feuds are deeply rooted for generations, corruption has been so engrained in these politicos' minds, and what's worse is the use of religion as a punchline for their cause when in fact the only God they serve is POWER and MONEY.

But there is always hope. One such proponent of peace and progress who I really admire is Datu Ibrahim Paglas.

He died at age 47. Excerpts from his life as the "best governor ARMM never had":

I was born to a traditional ruling family in the former Empire Province of Cotabato, carrying in my blood a "convergence" of basically all the major clans in the Maguindanao tribe, with ancestral kinship extending to Lanao provinces, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. I am a grandson of the late Senator Genral Salipada K. Pendatun, and I am a nephew of the former MILF Chairman Hashim Salamat. The Paglas and Pendatun clans of my parents used to be fierce rivals, eliminating any member at first chance, this feud dating back to pre-WW2. During the war, the Pendatuns sided with the Americans and the Paglases with the Japanese, even heightening some more the mortal animosity between the two families. This was only patched up after my father and mother eloped, managed to avoid the wrath of my grandparents (could have been fatal to either or both my parents), they were only forgiven and the two clans forced to reconcile with each other when I was born (in 1962).

Before I could graduate, I got married to the woman who had my first, unintended, son. I was 17, she was 16, a Christian American-Spanish mestiza in my school in Davao. My father stripped all of my "royalty privileges" and drove me away from home because of this, I was adopted by and lived with, the tenants of my father wherein I had to farm for a living, in a most humbling environment. Looking back, I am grateful to that experience of having lived with the common people.

My town was the site of one of the fiercest fights between the military and the MNLF during the 1970's, two of our ancestral homes were leveled to the ground by AFP bombings, and my father was put to prison by President Marcos on suspicion that he was supporting the MNLF. When he was released, Marcos created the town of Datu Paglas, named after my grandfather, made my father the first mayor, reportedly to make amends. (I remember now the former President Ramos, still an Army Major at the time, who, whenever he would visit my father, would play my hair and put me on his lap, he was like a father to me, he as President made gave special approval to allow banana plantation in my town).

As early as my childhood days, I was already a witness to the violence and lawlessness that characterized my town. So much has been written about it, one that was not, was how my father, immediately after Edsa in 1986, was to be appointed OIC governor of Maguindanao province. On the night before his oath taking, grenade was thrown into our house, instantly killing my 2-year old brother and severely maiming my father who died shortly after. My mother succeeded him as Mayor, and the situation worsened. I was then persuaded by the elders of my clan to already assume the leadership, and I became the Mayor at 24 (in 1988). My efforts to reform the image of my town, and the economic development that followed are also written about.

The foregoing Background of my life had played a tremendous role in shaping up my personality, I count my education not so much in terms of years at school but more so in actual and practical experience in dealing with people and coping with events. An adopted dear Christian brother shared with me the saying "spare the rod and spoil the child", a gem of wisdom that means so much to me. As young father of my town, I had to "crack the whip" and do some "spanking" in order to put back into line the "problem children" of my town.

My present responsibilities may be summarized as : making sure that the gains in terms of peace and economic development my town was blessed with, be preserved, be replicated in other places, and I be prepared to serve when needed. This has in fact, become a mission for me.

My interests maybe summarized as: seeing my less fortunate fellowmen, regardless of faith, tribe, nationality, have a fair share of opportunities that are just waiting to be grabbed. I had submitted myself to be an instrument of peace and development. My kinship with rebels, both returnees and active MILF on one hand, and my being an adopted member of the PMA on the other has put me in a unique position to be a bridge between these contending forces.

yup ganyan tlga kagulo. lahat eh nagpapatayan. kaya bilib ako ke datu paglas kasi nung pamilya niya ang minassacre, buong tapang niyang hinarap ang ampatuan with only a few escorts. pero ang nakakabilib is he called for an end to the violence even if the same people were the ones who initiated the killings. what's more admirable is what he has accomplished in his hometown. the more i read about him the more im convinced that the peace efforts in maguindanao has a future. and the more i know him i wished we had leaders in government who have the same integrity, courage and vision to really push for progress.

when he was asked what he thinks the solution to the conflict and lawlessness in maguindanao is his answer was simple:
PUT AN END TO POVERTY.

For Additional Reading:
A blog of Jun Mercado, OMI

http://blogs.gmanews.tv/jun-mercado/archives/62-The-Maguindanao-Massacre,-Part-2.html

On 1st part he dwell on the actual massacre that happened, and i agree with him 100% on his analogy... COMELEC blah blah blah... tsk, tsk, tsk...

On the 2nd part he talks about the political landscape, the society, the system...
I think he's very accurate here with his descriptions of what's happening in Maguindanao... (actually it also apply to Lanao del Sur and del Norte)
