First HDRI Light Setup

Post by celes on Fri Feb 19, 2010 10:07 am

Kudos to boks and nomer for their thread

http://www.cgpinoy.org/vray-for-3d-studio-max-tutorials-f35/making-of-a-night-scene-with-hdri-or-a-sky-bitmap-t9384.htm

although this aint a night scene, it's HDRI supplemental lighting for a day scene. i know it isn't a new technique - pero i was always using just the default IES sun or vray sun to render a scene, HDRI really makes it look better (IMHO).

Vray non LWF, reinhard color mapping, post processed in Photoshop.

Day HDRI

wow! may direct light pa rin ba ito sir mushroom?

I did tried HDRI based lighting before, but it always gets me into trouble. I have succeeded with this setup for product renders, but, have yet to come-up with a nice result when using it for exteriors.

You really are the real thing....

Thanks for sharing

Thanks sirs yup malaking tulong ung tutorial ni boks. I felt I can't get the same result using just a vraysun. Yes meron pa rin syang vraysun to compensate for the shadows. I got the hdri maps from the link boks gave, will also experiment vertex's suggestion for using a spherical bitmap instead. Although ill prob prefer using a vrayhdri map because you can control the intensities.

Ed kelangan din tlga I tweak cos u might not get the desired result agad. The way I did this was start with an hdri first, making sure I got the right ambience muna before applying the vraysun.

I see sir...so, yun pala ang pinaka workflow na mangyayari. I'll try this one on a free time...

And post ko din dito sa forums yung magiging result ng aking experimento.
